Program note

This piece arises from an exploration of microsounds, formant filtering, feedback-network systems, and related processes on the Serge modular analogue synthesiser, integrated with computer-based digital signal processing. The output signal from the Serge system underwent multiple layers of micro-montage, resulting in the creation of thousands of sonic fragments at both micro- and macro-temporal scales.

These materials were subsequently analysed to identify their characteristic features and morphological properties, followed by two phases of data reduction. The resulting corpus formed the primary source material for the composition of the work. This material not only shaped the larger structures through micro-montage and the development of techniques for creating distinct phrase structures and contrapuntal relationships, but also ultimately determined the formal trajectory and overall scaffold of the piece.
